AI Visibility Intelligence Report

Lululemon wins the search results. It does not win the AI answers.

Two pages already rank first. The fastest gains come from giving AI assistants a reason to cite lululemon.com directly, then building the golf, athleisure and travel pages that do not exist yet.

What this report found

Lululemon already ranks first for the two biggest searches tested here. Ask an AI assistant the same question and competitors get named instead. Three categories in this set — golf, athleisure brands and travel — have no Lululemon page at all.

01 — Decision Brief

Make these three moves, in this order.

Each recommendation connects a visible problem to a measurable result. The order reflects opportunity and readiness, not effort alone.

1
AI CITATIONS

Make lululemon.com the source cited for yoga and workout clothes

Add quotable comparison language, FAQ schema and clear "best for" verdicts to the two pages that already win the search results, and fix the blocked llms.txt so assistants can find them.

Opportunity
6,600 searches/month on the top term alone; both pages already rank #1 or #2.
2
NEW DEMAND

Build the missing women's golf apparel page

Lead with the golf-specific pants and shorts lululemon already sells, add a comparison table against the golf specialists holding this term, and answer the fit and dress-code questions buyers ask.

Opportunity
880 searches/month at $4.54 CPC, the highest of all 7 terms; zero presence.
3
RANK IMPROVEMENT

Push leggings and running from #6 toward the top 3

Deepen both pages with activity-based structure, a crawlable comparison table and an FAQ block that mirrors what the AI platforms are already extracting from third-party review sites.

Opportunity
2,780 combined searches/month; both already sit at #6, one push from top 3.
What not to do: Do not start with the athleisure-brands or travel-apparel pages. Both are genuine gaps, but travel carries no measurable search demand under this exact phrasing and athleisure brands is dominated by media roundups, not single-brand pages — golf is the gap with real, measurable commercial intent.
02 — Current Position

Two category pages already win. Five have not been built or found yet.

The crawl reaches the site and the organic footprint is large — lululemon.com ranks for over 100,000 keywords domain-wide. On the seven terms tested, that scale does not carry evenly: two rank #1 or #2, two sit at #6, and three do not appear in the top 10 at all.

On the scores above: this site's bot-protection blocked this audit's own crawl, lab-performance and header-inspection tools at every attempt — the same wall a legitimate AI-assistant fetcher could face regardless of what robots.txt allows. Page experience, security posture and crawl foundation are therefore conservative estimates from the signals that did get through, not direct lab measurements; the Evidence and Competitive Landscape sections below trace to data that was fully collected.
03 — Keyword Portfolio

Demand is concentrated in two terms lululemon already holds.

Every requested keyword, with the position it holds today and the demand behind it. The portfolio view answers one question: where is the winnable volume?

Bar length is monthly search demand, scaled against the largest plotted term. "Best apparel for yoga" and "best apparel for travel" carry no measurable search volume at this exact phrasing and are left off the chart rather than shown as a false zero — both are covered on their real merits in the table above.

Verdict: 10,850 monthly searches sit across the five keywords with measurable demand. lululemon already holds 6,600 of them outright. The next-largest block — leggings and running, 2,780 combined — is one page-depth improvement away, not a new build; the golf gap is the only meaningful-volume term with no page at all.
04 — Evidence

AI assistants recognize the Lululemon brand, but not the Lululemon category page.

Across four live tests, every platform confirmed Lululemon is a good brand the moment it was named in the prompt. Ask the same platforms an unbranded category question, and the citations move to third-party reviewers instead — or the brand disappears from the answer entirely.

PromptChatGPTClaudeGeminiPerplexityMeaning
What's the best apparel for yoga? Not namedNot namedNot namedNot namedNo platform names Lululemon for the category it was founded on, even though shop.lululemon.com ranks #2 in search for this exact question.
What are the best leggings for working out?NamedNamedNamedNamedAll four name a specific Lululemon product — but every citation credits thatfitfriend.com, shape.com or a similar reviewer, never lululemon.com itself.
What's the best golf apparel for women?NamedNot namedNamedNot namedTwo of four platforms never mention Lululemon for a category it actively sells; the other two treat it as a footnote beside golf specialists.
Is lululemon a good brand for yoga and workout clothes?NamedNamedNamedNamedBrand recognition is intact everywhere. The gap opens the moment the question drops the brand name and asks about the category instead.
Diagnosis: This is not a crawler-permission problem in the strict sense — robots.txt does not explicitly block GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot or the other crawlers checked. But llms.txt returns HTTP 403 rather than a normal "not found," and every automated tool this audit tried against the live site was itself blocked by the same bot-protection layer. The gap is category-page depth and citable proof, worsened by an access layer that may be turning away the same assistants being asked these questions.
Live capture blocked. The site's bot-protection layer rejected every rendering attempt against both lululemon.com and shop.lululemon.com during this audit, the same pattern that blocked this audit's crawl, lab-performance and header-inspection tools. A hero screenshot could not be captured.

Why competitors are getting cited

The reviewer gets the citation, not the retailer

Even when the product named is Lululemon's own, the link goes to the site that reviewed it — thatfitfriend.com, verywellfit.com, outdoorgearlab.com — never to lululemon.com.

Independent testing reads as more trustworthy

Sites like That Fit Friend and Outdoor Gear Lab structure content as tested comparisons with pros, cons and spec tables — the exact shape an assistant extracts most easily.

Roundups crowd out single-brand pages

"Athleisure brands," "golf apparel" and "travel apparel" are all owned by articles naming five to ten brands at once. Lululemon has no comparable page to be pulled from.

Reddit answers in the buyer's own words

Reddit appears in six of the seven keyword searches tested, because forum threads answer in the same conversational phrasing a buyer types into an AI assistant.

05 — Competitive Landscape

Reddit and Women's Health show up more often than lululemon.com does.

Ranked by how many of the seven requested keywords each domain appears for, across the top 10 results. Only domains that genuinely appeared are listed.

Vuori1336,695Close behind lululemon despite a far smaller footprint.

Where the two races disagree: lululemon.com holds a stronger average search position than Women's Health Magazine (3.75 vs 6.0) on the terms tested, and beats every domain here except Reddit. In AI answers, the read flips: lululemon ranks sixth of eight brands measured, behind Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Gymshark and even the smaller Alo Yoga. Its own domain does supply the majority of citations when the brand is the direct subject of the question — the gap opens specifically on category questions, matching the Evidence findings above.
06 — What to Build

Four page briefs cover the highest-value gaps.

Each page should answer one search intent, present one clear promise, and give machines and buyers the same evidence.

PRIORITY 1 · NEW PAGE

Women's Golf Apparel

Suggested title: Women's Golf Apparel: Performance Golf Clothing | lululemon

  • Lead with the golf-specific pants and shorts lululemon already sells
  • Cover polos, skorts, layering pieces and course dress codes
  • Add moisture-wicking, UPF and stretch fabric proof points
  • Include a comparison table against Rhone, Bad Birdie and Greyson
  • Answer "is lululemon good for golf" directly, in text
  • Link to the performance-training and studio hub pages

Target length: approximately 1,400 to 1,700 words. Primary goal: enter the top 10; first golf-specific ranking.

PRIORITY 2 · DEEPEN EXISTING PAGE

Leggings for Working Out

Suggested title: Best Leggings for Working Out, By Activity | lululemon

  • Structure by activity: lifting, running, yoga, HIIT, budget
  • Add a crawlable comparison table, not an image grid
  • Name Wunder Train, Align and Fast and Free explicitly
  • Add a 6 to 8 question FAQ answering "best leggings" directly
  • Cite the independent test data that already favors these styles

Target length: approximately 1,600 to 1,900 words. Primary goal: move from #6 toward the top 3.

PRIORITY 3 · STRENGTHEN AI CITATION

Yoga & Workout Clothes Hubs

Suggested title: Yoga Clothes for Women: Align & Studio Wear | lululemon

  • Add a clear "best for yoga" verdict above the fold
  • Publish a quotable comparison: Align vs Wunder Train vs Fast and Free
  • Add FAQ schema answering "what's the best apparel for yoga"
  • Fix llms.txt, currently blocked, so assistants can find it
  • Confirm AI crawler user agents pass the bot-protection layer

Primary goal: earn a direct lululemon.com citation in at least one of the four platforms tested.

NEXT CLUSTER

Athleisure Brands + Travel + Running

Purpose: Close the two remaining zero-presence gaps and complete the performance-training cluster.

  • Build an "athleisure brands" comparison page naming lululemon first
  • Build a travel-apparel spoke; Vuori already holds position 8
  • Deepen the running-apparel page from #6 toward the top 3
  • Cross-link all three back into their parent hub pages

Primary goal: establish presence on three terms with zero or shallow ranking today.

07 — Content Architecture

Three clusters, each with one hub and its supporting pages.

The seven requested keywords group into three intents: how you train, how you practice and dress day to day, and what you wear for a specific occasion. Each gets one hub page that owns the category term, with spokes beneath it that answer the narrower questions and link back.

Golf apparel for womenOccasion hub · performance hubOccasion hub · homepage
Why hubs, not one page: each cluster answers a different search intent — training performance, everyday practice, and occasion dressing are three different buyer questions. Folding them into one product-listing page is what leaves five of the seven requested terms unranked or unranked-well today; no single page can be the best answer to three different questions at once.
08 — 90-Day Roadmap

Sequence by dependency and payoff.

The plan starts by removing the access risk that blocked this audit's own tools, defends the two pages already winning, then closes the open category gaps.

Days 1 to 15
Confirm and fix AI-crawler access
Verify whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot pass the bot-protection layer that blocked every tool in this audit; publish llms.txt, which currently returns HTTP 403 instead of a normal response.
Measure: llms.txt returns 200; crawler access confirmed for all four platforms tested.
Days 16 to 35
Defend the two pages already winning
Add quotable "best for" verdicts, comparison language and FAQ schema to the yoga and workout-clothes hub pages so AI assistants have a reason to cite lululemon.com directly.
Measure: at least one of the four platforms cites lululemon.com by the next check.
Days 36 to 60
Push leggings and running toward the top 3
Restructure both pages by activity, add a crawlable comparison table and an FAQ block matching what AI platforms already extract from third-party reviewers.
Measure: both pages move from #6 toward the top 3.
Days 61 to 80
Build the golf apparel hub
Publish the highest-CPC gap in the set: a dedicated women's golf apparel page with a comparison table against the golf specialists currently holding the term.
Measure: page enters the top 10 for the first time.
Days 81 to 90
Close the remaining gaps
Publish the athleisure-brands comparison page and the travel-apparel spoke; cross-link all new pages into their parent hubs.
Measure: at least one of the two remaining gap terms enters the top 10.
09 — Execution Plan

Page by page, in build order.

The roadmap phases as a build queue: which page ships, which cluster it serves, the effort it carries, and the outcome that says it worked.

OrderPageClusterEffortOutcome that says it worked
1AI-crawler access fix + llms.txt (no new page)Site-wideLow · engineeringllms.txt returns 200; crawler access confirmed.
2Workout Clothes for Women (enhance)Performance TrainingLow · contentDirect lululemon.com citation in at least one platform.
3Apparel for Yoga (enhance)Studio & EverydayLow · contentDirect lululemon.com citation in at least one platform.
4Leggings for Working Out (deepen)Performance TrainingMedium · contentPosition moves from #6 toward the top 3.
5Apparel for Running (deepen)Performance TrainingMedium · contentPosition moves from #6 toward the top 3.
6Golf Apparel for Women (new)Occasion ApparelHigh · content + product inputEnters the top 10; first golf-specific ranking.
7Athleisure Brands (new)Studio & EverydayMedium · contentEnters the top 10 for a term with zero presence today.
8Apparel for Travel (new)Occasion ApparelMedium · contentEstablishes a ranking against Vuori's existing position 8.
Sequencing rule: the access fix ships before anything else — a page built while AI crawlers are still walled off cannot be cited no matter how well it is written. The two near-wins ship next because they return value fastest; the golf build, the largest single opportunity, is sequenced once the cheaper wins are already banked.
10 — Measurement

Track outcomes, not completed tasks.

A page being published is an output. Ranking, citation and AI mention share are the outcomes that matter.
