AI visibility, explained

How is AI changing the way customers discover brands?

People are moving from short keyword searches to detailed questions asked through ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. Instead of reviewing ten links, they may receive one summarized answer that shapes their shortlist before they visit any website. That changes what being found means. Ranking on a results page no longer guarantees the customer sees your name, because the assistant composes one answer from a few sources and names only the ones it trusts. A business whose site answers questions plainly, states the same facts on every page and listing, and is mentioned by other credible sources has a better chance of being one of those sources. A business whose site is thin, undated, or closed to AI crawlers may not come up at all, however well it ranks on Google. We have not measured what share of buying decisions now start this way; the direction is clear, the size is not.
